2021 Bowling Information

Due to the rising number of COVID infections among the unvaccinated and due to the restrictions imposed by SOMN, there will be a maximum of 50 bodies in the facility for practice. As a result, there will be a rotating schedule with each athlete off for 3 of the 8 weeks.   Masks at all times.  Spectators will be significantly  limited in numbers.  Groups will enter and exit from separate doors (optional but encouraged).  All 1:1 helpers will be counted in the numbers.   Written COVID Screening will be required on a weekly basis.  Sorry but no changes can be made to this complex schedule.  If weekly openings arise due to absences, Coach Paul will offer the opportunity to the bowlers who are available.

Bowling Information

Fall is the time for Special Olympics Bowling across the State of MN.  Wings Bowling starts in September and our location for practice is St. Louis Park.  Most athletes compete under professional bowling rules.   We do not use bumpers.  Some athletes use a ramp for launching the ball.

Practices are held  weekly (usually on Saturday mornings).   Scores are gathered weekly and are submitted to the SOMN office where divisioning for fair competition  is established with athletes of similar age and ability.

Our athletes have a wide range of skills and for practice they are grouped by general ability and age.  Social opportunities are an important part of our practice so Head Coach Paul and his coaches want practice to be fun.  The team will focus on bowling skills as well as sportsmanship and encouragement of fellow bowlers.

Suggested attire for bowling is comfortable, loose pants and a Wings t-shirt.  Our team has purchased bowling shirts for competition.

Competition

There will be a State bowling competition only.  No regional competition.
